Is wireless not really safe anymore?
Nowadays, with the emergence of wireless internet, a lot of services which support this wireless technology have surfaced. One of them is the Novatel’s MiFi Mobile Hotspot, sold by Verizon Wireless and Sprint, and they call it the MiFi 2200.
This type of wireless service enables you to fully access the internet, anytime and anywhere, making it practical and easy to access. But, this connection offered by Novatel, makes your device also prone to outside hazards.
By using wireless technology you may experience multiple security vulnerabilities. MiFi doesn’t require a valid session to changes to its configuration settings. By visiting an unsecured website, you may unknowingly activate your GPS system. The web interface couldn’t protect against Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) which could enable a website to change your mi-fi settings. Data can be improperly encoded, just like the key field for the Wi-Fi settings which exposes the clear text of the field.
Unprotected Wi-Fi use can change the wireless settings of your MiFi, which terminates your internet connection, forcing you to reset your device back to factory settings. There have been discoveries in some gaping holes in the web interface for this mobile hotspot that can be exploited for unwanted purposes.
