I haven't decided this yet, but I am considering dropping the 3G data service plan from AT&T on my iPad and just using the EVO 4G to provide Internet service via the hot-spot capability (and at faster speeds, I should add). ...

All I can say is I made the decision to not wait for 3G and go ahead and get 4G for my iPad Wifi (and other devices). And now at&t has just made me look even wiser with their recent changes

Admittedly I own a 3G/ 4G MiFi device and have sat in a parking lot or two the device with the iPad. But it was a novelty and then mostly to experience 4G on Sprint's network. Again, it just isn't a normal use case.
